Last night either everett or van pelt did a couple GREAT movie quotes during basketball highlights, but i can't remember them? Anyone remember what they were? They were kind of obscure, non-mainstream films.

What the hell do movie quotes have to do with sports highlights? Since when did reporting the news become stand-up comedy hour?

I would have to say that SportsCenter has pretty much moved past "sports news reporting" and more into "sports news entertainment". The shift occurred a few years back, probably coinciding about the time the current set was debuted.

Is it wrong that they did it? Not really, unless you are depending on SC for your boxscores and a 5 second highlight. In this day and age, you can probably get all that from any number of internet sites without having to wait for it to air randomly in a 60-minute SportsCenter episode.

If you want the straight news, then ESPNEWS is probably the right choice for you. If you want to see something different, maybe laugh a little, then SportsCenter is still one of the best.

I think the Patrick-Olbermann-Kilborn era was the best for this, where interweaving the catch phrases and the news was fairly seamless. Imitators today aren't quite as good and often overshadow the news/highlights portion for their own ego gratification.

Vince Vaughn promotes his new movie and tells us he has watched a Cubs game, he thinks, at some point. We also explain to him who Steve Bartman is.
